Katy and the Big Snow - Day 4

I've heard one benefit of homeschooling is kids can learn in their pajamas... today was one of those days for Miss 4.

We went over street signs and made a book to take with them in the car to identify ones they see.

Miss 4 says, "Katy helps people." The girls matched up occupation tops and bottoms and we talked about what kind of work people do and how Katy could help them if they were snowed in.

Treasure hunt! Miss 4 has noticed the "star" on each page Katy plows. Today we examined the star a little closer and learned it was a compass. Using her new knowledge, I made a treasure hunt with a compass. We used the iPad: Commander Compass. Free Compass!

Treasure!

To finish the day, we rebuilt our city since it was such a hit on Monday. This time I let Miss 4 make all the roads and make up her own city. Last time it was based on our city.

Miss 2 loved building her own little city.
Then it snowed!
Get out your snow plows!

We ended the day with a mini lesson at night. We had yummy hot chocolate and pretended we were snowed in. We pretended the power was out too. We used candles and flashlights and examined our emergency bags.

Whew! Hopefully we'll have a Katy around to save the day in our town. :o)
